[Arrival of] Jewish refugees from Austria; his family's unsuccessful attempts to leave the country under Slovakian protection; decree regarding wearing a yellow badge, 1941; marking of Jewish homes; Aryanization of the family's book shop; closure of the Jewish school; deportation of his father to Auschwitz, summer 1942; escape with his mother and siblings; life in Hlohovec and in various villages in the area; Slovak National Uprising, August 1944; escape to villages in the Topolcany area; in hiding with other Jews; detention by the Germans after being informed on; escape to Banska Bystrica; approach of the German Army; escape to the mountains; his sister joins the partisans; disappearance of his brother; disappearance of his mother; witness joins the partisans; leaves the partisans; receives help from farmers; hospitalization in a hospital in Banska Bystrica; liberation by the Red Army, March 1945. Reunion with his mother and brother, who survived; move back to Bratislava; aliya to Israel, 1948.
