Testimony of Philip Staal, born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 1941, regarding his experiences in Amsterdam and in a children's home in Soest His childhood in a well-to-do family. Confiscation of bank accounts; deportations to camps; contact with the Dutch underground; receives help from his Christian aunt; placed in a children's home administered by Dien (Vingerhoets) van Woerden (later recognized as a Righteous Among the Nations) in Soest, May 1943; life in the children's home including the changing of his name and receiving a Christian education; his parents are informed on; deportation of his parents to Westerbork and Sobibor; liberation. Placed in a Jewish orphanage, 1946; aliya to Israel, 1963; activities opposite the authorities in the Netherlands, for the restitution of Jewish property.
