Red Army occupation of Calarasi, 1939; deportation of merchants and wealthy people to the Soviet Union; Romanian Army occupation of Calarasi, 1941; deportation on foot to Gulyayevka including people freezing to death; digging of a mass grave in Gulyayevka; mass murder; witness pretends to be dead; escape from the killing pit; in hiding while hidden by a Ukrainian woman; informed on; transfer to Berezovka; life in Mostovoi; help from the JDC; liberation. Life after the war; aliya training in Bucharest; move to a "kibbutz" in Baia-Mare; illegal aliya attempt to Eretz Israel on the "Pan York" ship, 1947; detention in Cyprus; aliya to Israel, 1948.
