Testimony of Chava Eva (Zilkevitz) Openheim, born in Suwalki, Poland, 1918, regarding her experiences in Suwalki, the Kaunas Ghetto, Stutthof, on a death march and in other places Her childhood in a traditional family; life in a Zionist family including attending a Tarbut school and a Hebrew high school. Outbreak of the war, 1939; Red Army occupation of Suwalki; departure of the Red Army from Suwalki; escape to Lithuania in the footsteps of her sister with help from a Christian farmer; arrival to Kaunas; outbreak of the war [between Germany and the Soviet Union], summer 1941; deportation to the [Kaunas] Ghetto; Kaunas Ghetto life including hunger, labor and "Aktions", until its liquidation, July 1944; transfer to Stutthof camp; life outside in tents including labor digging trenches; death march, January 1945; liberation by a Jewish [Red Army] officer. Move back to Poland; reunion with her husband; reunion with her sister; DP camp life in Landsberg for three years; emigration to the United States, 1948; aliya to Israel, 1982.
