German occupation of Cernauti, 1941; deportation to Transnistria, October 1941; march lasting weeks including carrying his sister on his back; murder of his father by a soldier; death of family members from typhus; escape; adopted by a Ukrainian woman in Osiyevka; being informed on; transfer to an orphanage in Bershad; life in Bershad including fishing in the river and searching for food in the fields; return to Romania as part of the Transnistria orphans, 1944. Illegal aliya to Eretz Israel from the Constanta port; sinking of the ship, the "Mefkure"; arrival at Kfar Yehoshua, August 1944; life in Eretz Israel including military service as a career soldier.
