Testimony of Miriam Eshel, born in Budapest, Hungary, 1938, regarding her experiences in Budapest, Bergen-Belsen, Switzerland and Eretz Israel Her childhood in a well-to-do, traditional, Zionist family; antisemitism before the war; imposition of restrictions on Jews; dismissal of her father from his work; curfew; obligation to wear the yellow badge; her mother's work on the community [Relief and Rescue] Committee as a forger of certificates for refugees who arrived to Budapest. German occupation of Hungary, March 1944; deportation to a Jewish [marked] house; life during the German occupation, including overcrowding; air-raids; finds shelter during the air-raids; attempt to disguise themselves as Christians; her family joins the Kasztner train by means of Hashomer Hatzair; transfer on the train to Bergen-Belsen; Bergen-Belsen camp life including educational and cultural activities; camp institutions, including a hospital, library and synagogue; transfer from Bergen-Belsen camp to Switzerland, December 1944; attitude of the Swiss toward the refugees; liberation. Aliya to Eretz Israel, 1945.
