Helen Chaimovicz was born in Etterbeek, 31 January 1933;
At the outbreak of war between Belgium and Germany Helen escaped to France together with her family, 1940; she escaped with her family to Anderlecht with the help of the Belgian underground, 1941, and Helen was transferred to a hiding place in the St. Vincent de Paul monastery in Gent; Helen stayed in the monastery for a year and a half; she was transferred to the St. Angele-a-Ternat convent after it was discovered that two of her sisters were being hidden there; at the end of the war she was sent to the Les Hirondelles children's home in Brussels; she received the above-mentioned letters during her stay in the children's home;
Helen made aliya to Israel together with her sister, in 1949; her parents and elder sister were deported to Auschwitz and did not return.
