Testimony of Lea Gitel Gertruda (Presner) Malek, born in Vienna, Austria, 1917, regarding her experiences in the Marculesti camp and the Bershad Ghetto Her childhood in Vienna; her family's move to Cernauti, 1927; from a traditional, well established family; life in Cernauti including attending a government high school. Soviet occupation, 1940; German occupation, summer 1941; deportation to the Cernauti Ghetto; deportation by train to the Marculesti camp two days later; transfer to Transnistria on foot; transfer to the Bershad Ghetto on foot; ghetto life including disease and the deaths of her parents, late 1941; death of her sister, summer 1942; ghetto life including hunger; liberation by the Red Army, spring 1944. Return to Cernauti; move to Romania; unsuccessful aliya attempt with her husband, late 1947; detention in Cyprus; birth of her daughter; return aliya to Eretz Israel, early 1949; life until the present time.
