Testimony of Sonia (Unikovski) Blitzbau, born in Zdunska Wola, Poland, 1924, regarding her experiences in the Zdunska Wola Ghetto, the Lodz Ghetto, Auschwitz, Stutthof and more From a well-to-do family; childhood; attends a Polish school and a Beit Yaakov school; Hanoar Hatzioni activities; good neighborly relations with the Poles and the Volksdeutsche (members of the German minority in Poland); meeting with Jewish refugees from Germany. Outbreak of the war; deportation to the Zdunska Wola Ghetto; ghetto life including execution of Jews by hanging, robbery of property, shortages, crowding, hunger and informers; private education in the ghetto; rescue attempt by a Volksdeutsche man; deportation to the Lodz Ghetto; ghetto life including work in a kitchen, packing weapons, labor braiding straw [for making shoes], contracting typhus; deportation to Auschwitz; camp life including selections, cleaning latrines, abuse of inmates; transfer to Stutthof; camp life including the rescue of 14 young women by a German officer; liberation by the US Army in Neustadt. Aliya to Eretz Israel, 1945.
