Childhood in Gelsenkirchen; manifestations of antisemitism before the war; father sent to Buchenwald; moving to Austria; moving with a group of Jewish boys to Yugoslavia; the Jewish community of Zagreb receives the group; German occupation ensues in April 1941; evading deportation to concentration camps; the group moves to the Italian occupation zone using forged documents and with help from the authorities in Ljubljana; evacuation of the group to Nonantnola, northern Italy, in July 1942; concentration in Villa Emma; joining Jewish orphaned children from Yugoslavia; the Germans enter in late 1943; approx. 100 children aged 7 up are placed in hiding with residents and in convents; crossing into Switzerland with help from Jewish organizations in October 1943; life in refugee camps and children's homes in Switzerland; immigration to Eretz Israel in 1945; adjustment to life in Eretz Israel.
