Testimony of Anny (Dirnfeld) Gotlib, born in Cernauti, Romania, 1932, regarding her experiences in the Cernauti Ghetto, in Kukavka and the Mogilev Ghetto Loss of livelihood during the Soviet regime, 1940. German occupation, 1941; deportation to the Cernauti Ghetto, 1941; robbery of property by the neighbors; detention of her father as a hostage in order to receive a "contribution" [from the Jews]; deportation to Transnistria; rescue of her grandparents and uncles by use of "essential worker" certificates; coordination [of the people] in Kukavka village; her father earns a livelihood as a barber; deportation to the Mogilev Ghetto; transfer of her father and brother to [labor in] a mine in Tulchin; Mogilev Ghetto life including the smuggle of vegetables into the ghetto and receiving of food deliveries from Cernauti; hunger and disease; liberation. Return home on foot, 1944; move to Transylvania; joins Zionist organizations; illegal aliya attempt on the "Pan York" ship, 1947; detention in Cyprus; aliya to Israel, 1948.
