Testimony of Leonid Rechtman, born in Nikolayev, Ukraine, 1939, regarding his experiences as a child in Siberia Early childhood in Odessa; family moves to Nikolayev after his father is posted there by the NKVD. Outbreak of the war, 1941; drafting of his father into the Army; evacuation to Stalingrad with his mother and other military families by crowded train and ship, 05 August 1941; from there to the Caucasus; from there to Siberia; life in a village near Tobolsk for about four years. Stay with neighbors while his mother works as a saleswoman in a shop; remarriage of his mother after his father is killed; move to Barnaul; attendance at a school for the deaf for eight years; learning tailoring in Novosibirsk; move to Kharkov, aliya to Israel, 1990.
