Raised in a modern Orthodox family; his father served as President of Hamizrachi in Vienna and head of the synagogue [prayer house] "Beit Yaakov Yosef"; death of his father, 1931; Kristallnacht; leaving Vienna with the help of a female smuggler, June, 1939; move to Belgium for two weeks.
Escape to England; receiving an Affidavit from Rabbi Twersky and arrival in London; the "Blitz"; evacuation to a village within the framework of Rabbi Dr. Sheinfeld's Jewish schools; Yeshiva studies in Manchester, 1940-1945; move to London; enlistment in Lehi as preparation for aliya to Eretz Israel.
