Testimony of Gerda (Beruh) Ilan, born in Vienna, Austria, 1927, regarding her experiences in Vienna during Kristallnacht and emigration to England with the Kindertransport, January 1939, in a hostel in Newport and London Life in Vienna; displays of antisemitism. Anschluss (annexation to Germany), March 1938; arrest of her father on Kristallnacht and her father's release; receipt of an affidavit to emigrate to England together with her sister, Sonia; departure for England with the Kindertransport, January 1939; transfer to Newport by the Jewish Agency; life in a hostel established by the Jewish community along with 12 young Jewish girls from Austria and Germany; ban on speaking German; Habonim activities; closure of the hostel and move to a group in north London, 1942; stay in a large hostel established by Rabbi Sheinfeld in London; going out to work; life in the shadow of the severe air-raids on London; contact of the hostel with Bachad; exchange of letters with her father that comes to an end with the start of the war and her father's murder in Buchenwald; exchange of letters with her mother. Aliya to Eretz Israel on the ship, "Mataroa", July 1945.
