Testimony of Abraham Kogan, born in Cernauti, Romania, 1926, regarding his experiences in the Cernauti Ghetto Life before the war; raised in a religious-Zionist family. The Soviet occupation, June 1940; German-Romanian occupation, July 1941; burning of the synagogue; murder of 300 Jews by the river banks, including Rabbi Marek, the Chief Rabbi; deportation to the Cernauti Ghetto, Sukkot (October) 1941; expansion of the ghetto; the family home inside the ghetto, order to report to the train station for deportation, October 1941; receiving an exemption from deportation from the governor, Corneliu Calotescu, sending money to the people deported to Transnistria with the help of a German soldier; deportations, June 1942; attendance at Jewish community schools; underground activity in Hanoar Hatzioni; murders committed by German and Romanian soldiers during their retreat; liberation, spring 1944. Crossing the border into Romania after receiving false documents within the framework of repatriation; reunion with his family; unsuccessful aliya attempt to Eretz Israel, December 1947; detention in Cyprus; aliya to Israel, 1949.
