Testimony of Richard Ippen, born in Kolomyja, Poland, 1930, regarding his experiences in the Kolomyja Ghetto, the Lwow Ghetto, Gross-Rosen, Breslau and Ebersberg Only child in a religious family in Cernauti; attends a local school. Soviet occupation, 1939; outbreak of the war between Germany and the Soviet Union, 22 June 1941; on vacation visiting his grandmother in Kolomyja while his parents are still in Cernauti when the war breaks out; life in the Kolomyja Ghetto; his grandmother's decision to transfer him to relatives in the Lwow Ghetto; life in the Lwow Ghetto including hunger; deportation to Gross-Rosen with a group of youth, late 1942; camp life including living quarters in Block 16; work in Breslau assembling detonators in a subterranean ammunitions factory; liquidation of the camp, late 1944; approximately one month long transfer to Ebersberg in Austria; camp life; liberation by the US Army. Move to the Feldafing DP camp; work as a translator for the Americans including participation in the Nuremberg trials; move to the United States with the US Army, 1947; discovery that his parents are alive, 1950; aliya to Israel; life in Israel, 1951-1958; work in the US Embassy; life in the US until 1970; return aliya to Israel.
