Testimony of Shraga Birman, born in Bucharest, Romania, 1923, regarding his experiences in Bucharest, Sarata and Baldovinesti From a traditional family; good relations with the Romanian neighbors; displays of antisemitism in the Romanian newspapers and rumors regarding what is happening in Europe from refugees from Poland; the Jewish men are taken for forced labor in a suburb next to Bucharest; work in a hospital and unloading cargo from trains; deportation to Sarata; camp life; transfer by cattle train for two days; mutual help among the camp inmates; forced labor and the humiliating attitude towards the Jewish inmates on the part of the Romanian soldiers; 25-lash flogging for lateness at the morning roll call; transfer to Baldovinesti near Bucharest; camp life including forced labor; escape from the camp on hearing rumors regarding the end of the war; liberation in Bucharest by the Red Army. Rehabiltation of his life; Dror activities; crosses the border into Hungary illegally and continues on to Italy; aliya to Israel on the ship, "Caserta", 1948.
