Testimony of Joseph Hamaida, born in Kosice Mesto, Czechoslovakia, 1933 Move to Kezmarok, 1936; draft of her father to the Slovakian Army; restrictions and decrees on the Jews; in hiding during an "Aktion"; receives papers he is an essential worker; deportation of his mother's family from Presov; receives letters from his mother’s sister and information on the extermination in Auschwitz; unsuccessful attempt to cross the Hungarian border; arrest by the Slovakians and Hungarians at the border; help from the station commander on the Slovakian side; move to Budapest; draft of his father to forced labor, 1944; move to a marked house with his mother and siblings; protected houses under the protection of the Swiss embassy; deportation to the Budapest Ghetto; move to a protected house for small children; escape of his father from a labor battalion; draft as a translator by the NKVD; deserts the army and move of the family to Kosice Mesto. Membership in Zionist youth organizations; aliya to Israel in 1949 to Moshav Hibat Zion.
