Soviet occupation, 1940; closing of the family store; NKVD interrogation of her father; German occupation, 1941; escape to Odessa with local people; life in Odessa; support for the refugees by the local people; German occupation; imprisonment of Jews in Soviet prisons; deportation of Jewish men to labor digging pits; mortality of the Jews from disease and starvation; weakness and dizziness from hunger; her mother's labor as a translator for a Romanian officer; escape to Bucharest on a military train using a false identity; life in Bucharest including her aunt's family giving money to the officer; liberation by the Red Army, 1944. Move to Turkey on the ship, "Mefkure"; obtains certificates for legal aliya to Eretz Israel; aliya to Eretz Israel by train, 1944.
