His family earned its livelihood in a village from agriculture; witness learns in a "heder" and attends a Ukrainian school.
Annexation to Hungary; deportation to Iasi, Romania with most of the village's Jews; return to Czechoslovakia in exchange for bribery; draft of his father to labor battalions; German occupation, March 1944; deportation to the Iza Ghetto; Iza Ghetto life for six weeks; refusal of offer to be hidden by a non-Jewish acquaintance; life in an empty chicken coop for ten days; transfer by train to Chust; deportation to Auschwitz-Birkenau with his father; selection; transfer to Landsberg and Kaufering; camp life including labor unloading bags of cement into a cement mixer; sneaks into a group of laborers logging trees; labor conveying pots of food in exchange for the remains [of the food] thanks to contacts with the Ukrainian guard; sneaks into various labor groups; labor carrying railroad tracks in exchange for six cigarettes per week, which were exchanged for bread; labor clearing rubble and building railroad tracks in Munich; transfer to Dachau in an open railroad car; air-raids on the train; liberation by the US Army.
