Testimony of Michael Adler, born in Subotica, Yugoslavia, 1924, regarding his experiences in Croatia, Albania, Ferramonti Di Tarsi, Castel Di Sangro and in a forest Secular Zionist family; activities in the Blau-Weiss movement; life in Subotica until 1939; selling of their shoe factory and property, and conversion of the money into gold and jewelry, 1939. Outbreak of the war, 1941; escape to Croatia; escape to the south; detention by [men in] the "Brown Shirts" for a week; move by ship to an Italian camp in Albania; camp life for approximately six months; move by ships to Ferramonti Di Tarsi, Italy; life in Ferramonti Di Tarsi for approximately eight months; exit from the camp along with other people, in exchange for bribery of the army physician, late 1942; move to Castel Di Sangro; life in a village along with other Jewish families; registration with the police several times a day, and curfew at night; German occupation, autumn 1943; escape to a forest with some of the Jews; wanderings in forests for seven months in harsh conditions and without food during the winter; liberation by the Canadian Army and the Scottish Army. Aliya to Eretz Israel using certificates with his parents, spring 1945.
