His family was originally from Carpathian Ruthenia; life before the Anschluss; buds of antisemitism, 1934.
Anschluss, annexation of Austria to Germany, March 1938; preparations for aliya to Eretz Israel with help from a relative active in the Beitar movement in Vienna; aliya of the witness' brother to Eretz Israel, July 1938; unsuccessful attempt to leave via Italy; deportation of his father to Dachau for a short time; sets sail to Eretz Israel with Aliya Bet in travel that lasts approximately one month, late 1938.
