Testimony of Lea (Zarembok) Aharoni, born in Kaunas, Lithuania, 1930, regarding her experiences in the Kaunas Ghetto, Stutthof, Trunz and Lubicz Life before the war. Soviet occupation, 1940; refugees from Poland stay in her house; German occupation, June 1941; unsuccessful attempt to escape to the Soviet Union; sealing of the Kaunas Ghetto; murder of Jews in the streets; the Jewish police; fear of Ukrainians and Lithuanians; work permits are obtained for the whole family from a friend with Judenrat connections; burning of the hospital on Yom Kippur (01 October) 1941; "Large Aktion", 28 October 1941; mass murder in the Ninth Fort; confiscation of property; smuggling of food; labor at an air field and in a sewing workshop; smuggling cigarettes and selling them in the ghetto; class status in the ghetto; cultural life; the underground; Children's "Aktion", March 1944; hiding in a cellar with a group of children; life in hiding without food for three days; liquidation of the ghetto, July 1944; deportation to Stutthof; hunger; beatings; transfer to digging trenches in Trunz and Lubicz after approximately three weeks; physical and emotional abuse; high mortality; disappearance of the Germans; liberation by the Red Army between Bydgoszcz and Torun. Reunion with her father in Lodz; life in the Feldafing DP camp; aliya to Israel, 1949.
