Outbreak of the war; deportation to Transnistria in a freight train; stop at Atachi; transfer on foot to Mogilev-Podolski; his family receives a room in Mogilev-Podolski; draft of his father to forced labor; hunger; lice; typhus epidemic; death of his mother due to typhus; his sister is fostered by a widow; return of his father, and his father's draft into the Red Army; his father's participation in the battle of Stalingrad; his father's release from the Red Army.
