Deportation to the Bershad ghetto; ghetto life including a German raid on the houses and taking out the Jewish men; his father's escape; his father hides; loading of Jews on trucks; hanging the Jewish men on electric poles; his father's escape back; shortage of clothing; guarding of the ghetto by Germans, Romanians and Hungarians; approach of the war front; liberation by the Red Army. Escape of the Germans; move to Cernauti by train; life in Cernauti including obtaining forged documents; crosses the border to Romania; life in Romania including help from Bericha, 1945; life in Bucharest including meeting emissaries from Eretz Israel; crosses the border into Austria illegally on foot; move in the direction of Italy with a group and discovery of the group; return to Austria with the family; aliya attempt to Eretz Israel on the ship, "Tirat Zvi", 1947; capture of the ship by the British Army; detention in Cyprus; life in camp 64, 1947; aliya to Israel on the ship, "Hatikvah", 1948.
