Testimony of Shlomo Salo Shechter, born in Cernauti, Romania, 1921, regarding his experiences in the Cernauti Ghetto, in the Cernauti underground and Tiraspol Life before the war; from a religious family with hardships; learns in a Jewish school and a "heder"; work; joins Gordonia. Soviet occupation, 1940; Romanian-German occupation, 05 July 1941; murder of Jews next to the Prut river; forced agricultural labor; deportation to the Cernauti Ghetto, Sukkot (06 October) 1941; ghetto life including deportations of Jews to Transnistria; obtains a permit to live outside the ghetto due to his essential work as a mechanic; joins the underground; underground activities; deportation to Tiraspol as a mechanic; camp life; meeting with his brother; retreat of Romanian soldiers; transfer to Cernauti; life in Cernauti including meeting his parents; labor as a mechanic in military camps; renews contact with the underground; German Army retreat; hanging of a red flag on the top of the city hall tower; liberation, 29 March 1944; drafted into the NKVD as a censor. Studies; aliya to Israel, 1977.
