Testimony of Lea (Poper) Engel, born in Debrecen, Hungary, 1934, regarding her experiences as a child in the Debrecen Ghetto, Vienna Lobau, Vienna and Strasshof From a religious family with hardships. German occupation, March 1944; deportation to the Debrecen Ghetto, May 1944; ghetto life with her aunt; transfer to a brick factory; deportation of the family to Vienna Lobau; camp life including labor of her mother in the forests; remains with her brother in her grandfather's care; help from an Italian POW; transfer to a school in Vienna; life in the sports arena during the air-raids and help from non-Jews; deportation to Strasshof, March 1945; camp life during air-raids including Pesach (March-April); transfer and stopping of the train; liberation by the Red Army, 10 April 1945. Life including rape of women by Red Army soldiers; return to Debrecen; joins Hashomer Hatzair; aliya to Israel, 1949.
