German occupation, 1940; deportation of his father to Utrecht; move to a sanitorium for infectious diseases with help from non-Jews, 1942; deportation to Westerbork, autumn 1943; his mother's efforts to make aliya to Eretz Israel as part of a population exchange; transfer to Bergen-Belsen; transfer to Eretz Israel via Austria, Turkey, Syria and Lebanon, 1944.
Emigration to the United States.
