Material of the Reich Commissariat Ukraine, 1941-1944

Material of the Reich Commissariat Ukraine, 1941-1944 After the German attack on the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, the Reich Commissariat Ukraine was established on September 1, 1941. At the beginning, its borders were the Generalgovernement in the west, the Dnjestr river in the south, the Slutsch and the Horyn rivers to the East, and the Reich Commissariat Ostland in the north. With the further occupation by the German troopes, the Reich Commissariat was expanded by and by until September 1, 1942. During 1943 the Red Army re-gained most parts of the commissariat. At the beginning of 1944 the Reich Commissariat Ukraine was dissolved by adding the regions of Brest, Kobryn and Pinsk, which had not yet been re-gained by the Red Army, to the Reich Commissariat Ostland. The collection contains a wide variety of material. Especially the documents that were produced at the very outset of the Reich Commissariat mirror the inner structure of the administration that was set up. The material also deals with the responsibilities of the Reich Commissariat as opposed to those of the SS. Among the administrational documents, topics such as staff issues (e.g.wages), accomodation, supply with food, clothes etc. are dealt with. The collection includes the Official Journals that were published for the administration of the Reich Commissariat. It also includes registers on file numbers that the commissariat used. Furthermore, the collection includes material on topics, such as: - The Reich Commissariat's directives on how to preserve its work in archives for later generations as well as other documentation refering to the sector of libraries and archives (see JM.10630)
