Soviet occupation, June 1940; deportations to Siberia; witness is forced to attend school on Jewish religious holidays; ban on youth movement activities; draft of her brother into the Red Army and his disappearance; Soviet retreat; murder and robbery of the Jews by the local rabble; German occupation, June 1941; yellow badge; deportation to the ghetto; hiding refugees from Poland in their home; family hides in the attic to evade deportations; underground activities in Hanoar Hatzioni; movement meetings in her family home; concentration of sacks of bread in her home for distribution to refugees from Poland and Czechoslovakia; knitting sweaters and sending them to Transnistria; illegally relocates to Bucharest using a false identity with help from a non-Jewish woman in exchange for payment, late 1942; meets with friends from the movement and her sister; life in Bucharest as an illegal resident. Aliya to Eretz Israel via Turkey and Syria, April 1944.
