Escape from Warsaw with his parents and sister, 1939; crosses the border into the area under Soviet control in a boat; deportation of his father to Siberia and his release after the victory at Stalingrad; family wanderings in the Soviet Union and villages; relations with the local population; move to Kirov; death of his father in a hospital; wanderings; life in Morshansk; his mother's work laying railroad tracks; life in an orphanage; end of the war, 1945.
Return to Warsaw; wanderings to Germany; meeting with Haganah representatives; joins a group of children in Reichenbach, 1946; move to Lindenfelde; joins a Bnei Akiva group with his sister; education; travel to France; aliya attempt on the ship, "Exodus" from Port de Buk; ship is seized by the British Army; transfer to Haifa and then to a cargo ship; sets sail back to France; hunger strike; sets sail to Hamburg after two months; life under British control in the Papendorf detention camp; transfer to the American zone; reunion with his mother; life in the UNRRA camp in Wroclaw; aliya to Israel, 1949.
