Testimony of Lea Gal, born in Zdzieciol, Poland, 1921, regarding her experiences in the Zdzieciol Ghetto and with the partisans in the Nowogrodek forest Her family are Slonim hasids; her father was a ritual slaughter and mohel; death of her mother from tuberculosis, 1936; life in the Zionist Jewish community; learns Hebrew and religious studies; attends the high school in Vilna until 1938; joins the Hechalutz Hatzair movement; aliya training in Lodz until August 1939; Soviet occupation; studies in a teacher's college until 1941; German occupation, June 1941; murder of her brother; death of her father from an illness; deportation to the Zdzieciol Ghetto; ghetto life including the shortage of food, forced labor and in hiding during the "Aktions"; murder of her sister and nephews; joins the partisans under the leadership of Yehezkel Atlas, August 1942; life in the forests near Nowogrodek; typhus; amputation of feet due to frostbite; partisan activities; contacts with non-Jews; acts of revenge against Germans; liberation, August 1944. Return home; move to Lodz; meets Zivia and Antek Zuckerman; move to Germany; life in Leipheim DP camp from January 1946; move to Italy, October 1946; life in Milan; marriage; aliya aattempt onboard the "Moledet", March 1947; detention in Cyprus; aliya to Eretz Israel, November 1947; life on Kibbutz Alonim.
