Expulsion from the Italian school; private lessons; relations with the local population; transfer to the desert village of Kwafia, 1942; life in the village including agricultural work; deportation to Giado by the Italian authorities; camp life including illnesses; deaths of family members; liberation by the British Army, February 1943.
Return to Benghazi; his mother sets up a dressmaking business; makes friends with British soldiers; life using the false identity of a British soldier; aliya to Israel with Mordechai Rothschild, from Ein Vered, via Cairo, May 1945; absorption in Ein Vered.
