Records of the Jasenovac Camp Memorial Area This collection contains records created by the Camp Memorial administrations of the Jasenovac, Lobor-Grad, and Stara Gradiska camps, including registers of artifacts and documents; testimonies by surviving inmates of the camps; copies of files relating to Croatian war crimes investigations and trials; documents relating to the camps and the activities of the Croatian government ministries during the period 1941-1945; names lists of people who were displaced, deported, interned, and/or murdered; translations of German documents relating to the activities of German military units in Croatia; testimonies regarding mass murders at the Dubicke Krecane camp; transcripts of survivors' oral histories; and more. Provenance: The administration of the Camp Memorial Area created and collected the records to document the history of the camps. During the civil war in the former Yugoslavia (1991-1998), the memorial staff moved the entire collection, including paper records, to Banja Luka in the Republika Srpska for safekeeping. In the spring of 2001, officials of the U.S. Embassy in Zagreb, Croatia, and the director of the Banja Luka Archives in Republika Srpska requested that the USHMM act as a conduit for the transfer of the records (and the camp artifacts also stored there) to the Camp Memorial in Croatia. As part of the agreement toward this end, the USHMM offered to undertake the conservation/preservation of the materials and to arrange, produce a finding aid for, and microfilm the paper records before sending them on to the Jasenovac camp memorial. 1939-1991 608 microfiche cards Source of Acquisition: Jasenovac Camp Memorial
