Escape of the family to France before the German occupation; wanderings; separation from his father; return to Antwerp; deportation of his father to Drancy camp in France; deportation of his father to Auschwitz and his father's murder in Auschwitz; "Aktion" and deportation of the Jews from their neighborhood to a concentration camp; in hiding with the help of a Belgian policeman; move of his mother and the family's children to a hiding place in an apartment in Brussels; witness and his brother are hidden by a Belgian farmer; hidden in Brussels by a Belgian couple; move to a sanatorium for children with asthma; life using a false identity until liberation by the US Army.
