German occupation; establishment of an open ghetto; yellow badge; labor drying swamps; selection; deportation of his mother to a camp; liquidation of the ghetto; deportation to Markstaedt with his father, February 1943; camp life including labor digging, cleaning and painting; transfer of his father to another camp; transfer to Bunzlau, early 1944; camp life including a visit from the Red Cross; death march to Dora-Nordhausen, early 1945; camp life including labor collecting corpses and burning them; transfer to Bergen-Belsen, April 1945; liberation by the British Army. Meets Jewish Brigade soldiers; aliya to Eretz Israel via Germany and Italy, August 1945; starts a family.
