From a traditional Zionist family; witness's father's Gordonia activities; escape to the Ural Mountains; death of his brother; move to Uzbekistan; life near Tashkent; his parents' work in the kolkhoz; search for food; coordination of social and religious activities for the workers in a sugar factory by his father; establishment of a cooperative by his father with permission from the authorities, late 1944.
Return to Poland, 1946; fate of his relatives; joins a kibbutz in a DP camp in Wetzlar; his father's appointment as Secretary of the Gordonia movement and Chairman of the Jewish National Fund, JNF; learns Hebrew; death of his father in an automobile accident; aliya to Israel, 1948; starts a family.
