Soviet occupation and the consequent changes; confiscation of belongings of wealthy residents in town and deportation of some of them to Siberia, help for those with small earnings; Romanian re-occupation; escape of the family to Bessarabia with the withdrawal of the Soviets, and return to Hertz with the Romanian occupation; deportation of the Jews to Jedenec, June 1941; difficult journey by foot and humiliations by Romanian guards; deported by foot again to Atachi, September 1941 and crossing the Dniester River on rafts to Mogilev-Podolsk; life in Pechora camp; forced labor building a bridge in Trihati and in Odessa; return to Dorohoi with his family, January 1944 and staying there until liberation by the Red Army. Move to Bucharest; aliya to Israel, 1950; absorption.
