In the collection there is documentation regarding the Reichskommissariat (Regional Commissariat- occupation regime in Ukraine), 1941-1945. Additionally, there is documentation regarding the period prior to the German occupation, such as documentation from courts in Ukraine regarding Jews accused of anti-Soviet propaganda, theft and profiteering, reports of meetings of the Council for Religious Affairs (CRA) attached to the USSR Council of Ministers (SNK), including decisions concerning matters pertaining to the Jewish communities and synagogues in Ukraine.
In the collection there are report-surveys prepared by the occupation authorities, investigative reports regarding the murder of Jews and local residents, correspondence between various bodies, lists of businesses and professional workers, laws and regulations, Nazi and antisemitic propaganda; legal documentation and lists of partisans.
Description of the collection:
Reports prepared by the Extraordinary State Commission for Investigating Crimes Perpetrated by the Nazis (ChGK), which was active in Ukraine, 1943-1945; correspondence between the Council for Religious Affairs (CRA) attached to the USSR Council of Ministers (SNK) and its representatives in the regions of Ukraine regarding the opening of synagogues and the religious life of the Jewish communities, orders issued by Erich Koch, the Reichskommissar, including boycott of the film industry, rules for using the mail, telegraph and train, organizing the powers of the Ukrainian police, rules regarding the crossing of borders, the role of the SIPO and the SD and forced labor.
Additionally, the Records Group includes Himmler's speech to senior officers in the Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS Galzien (an Infantry Division of the Galician SS), 17 May 1944, a list of Ukrainian volunteers for the Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS Galzien, 1944; reports from Rosenberg's office in the Reichsministerium fur die besetzten Ostgebiete or RMfdbO (Reich's Ministry for Matters Pertaining to the Occupied Areas in the East) regarding confiscation of Jewish-owned libraries and archives in the Netherlands and Belgium, as well as exploitation of documentation from the archives confiscated by the people in Rosenberg's office for spreading antisemitic propaganda.
In the documentation from these archives there is also documentation regarding the history of the Rothschild family, World Jewish Congress activities and the letter from Ilya Ehrenburg to the Jews of the United States, dated August 1941.
In the collection there are German reports regarding campaigns against partisans and the activities of the Einsatzgruppen (Task forces) against Jews in Ukraine, Lithuania and Belorussia, 1942, and orders issued by German military headquarters in Ukraine regarding activities against the partisans.
In the collection there are directives from the Organization of Nationalist Ukrainians (OUN) including directives from the police and security services [regarding] carrying out police investigations, detention of suspects and prisons, arranging of underground activities and sabotage carried out in the Soviet area, testimonies of OUN members, activities of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), excellence award certificates to Soviet Jewish partisans, testimonies of Jewish survivors and non-Jewish eye-witnesses, 1944-1946 regarding the murder of Jews in Ukraine, investigative reports and testimonies regarding Nazi crimes in Ukraine from 1945.
