Most of the 25,000 Kalisz Jews were either deported from Kalisz or driven from their homes and concentrated in the town market hall during October and November 1939. The systematic expulsion of Jews began shortly after the outbreak of the war in order to enable the settlement of Germans from the Baltic countries in Kalisz. On December 1939 most of the local Jews were doprted to the General Government. In February 1940 about 1,300 Jews were sent to Kozminek, to work camp. In July 1942 the remnants of the Kalisz Jews were sent probably to Chelmno death camp.
