German occupation, 19 March 1944; expulsion from school; yellow badge; deportation to the Gyor Ghetto; ghetto life including his role as the community's representative to the German authorities; transfer to the regional ghetto; deportation to Auschwitz; transfer to Birkenau with his father and uncle; camp life; murder of family members; transfer to Bochum with his father, August 1944; camp life including forced labor in the Bochumer Verein Gesellschaft in the production of cannon shells; death of his father from pneumonia; approach of the front; transfer to Buchenwald; camp life with Elie Wiesel, Max Perkal and Benedikt Kautsky; liberation by the US Army, 11 April 1945.
