Religious family home, immigrants from Poland; relations between the older Jewish community and the Jewish emigres from the east; Kristallnacht; celebrating his Bar Mitzvah in the shadow of the war after his father was arrested and sent to Buchenwald concentration camp; death of his father after two years; a group of 150 children was organized on the initiative of Recha Freier to leave Germany, September 1940; illegally crosses the border from Austria to Yugoslavia and remaines there for seven months; aliya to Eretz Israel, 1941.
