Yehoshua Leker

Testimony of Yehoshua Leker, born in Humenne, Czechoslovakia, 1926, regarding his experiences in labor battalions in Koszeg and Mauthausen Life before the war. German occupation; labor in an office for Jewish Affairs, 1941; escape to Hungary, late 1941; drafted to labor battalions in Budapest; transfer to Koszeg, 1944; labor as a gravedigger; transfer to Mauthausen on foot, 1945; camp life including typhus; liberation by the Red Army. Medical treatment; return to Budapest; labor as a translator for the Red Army; aliya to Israel on the ship, "Altalena"; enlists in the Alexandroni Brigade and combat in the War of Independence.
