Merchant family with four children; attends a "heder" and a Jewish school; completion of a technical school in Kharkov.
Drafted into the Red Army; military service on the Polish border; taken into German captivity, October 1940; escape from the POW camp to Lubny; forced labor in agriculture; capture and transfer to forced labor in Altenburg, autumn 1942; liberation, March 1945.
