Letter of testimony of Iosif Kogan, born in Starokonstantinov, Ukraine, 1920, regarding his experiences as a Red Army soldier, in POW camps in Polotsk and Borisov, in the Demblin camp, in a partisan unit, and more Starting his service in the Red Army as a lieutenant, 28 June 1941; being wounded and captured, 22 August 1941; taking on the assumed name Mikhail Markosyan; transfer to the Polotsk POW camp, autumn 1941; transfer to the Borisov POW camp, March 1942; preparations for escape from the camp; transfer of prisoners to the Benyaminovo camp; transfer with Armenian prisoners using his assumed identity to the Demblin camp; transfer to the Pulawy camp; camp life; connections with Polish partisans; escape, 12 February 1943; appointment as commander of a Soviet partisan group; crossing the Bug River, 14 August 1943; escape to Soviet controlled territory; joining the Voroshilov partisan unit; helping members of the Polish Government reach Soviet controlled territory; joining the Red Army forces, 16 August 1944; passing security checks in Kharkov and transfer back to the front; life as a Red Army soldier until the end of the war.
