Testimony of Pernoula (Koulia) Mioni, born in Arta, 1926, regarding her experiences in Auschwitz-Birkenau, Bergen-Belsen and Mauthausen camps Well-to-do traditional family; her childhood; life in a small village with few Jewish families; attends elementary school in a relaxed atmosphere with no displays of antisemitism. Transfer of the Jews to a confinement camp in Athens following the entry of the Germans, March 1944; transports of Jews to Poland within a month; deportation to Auschwitz-Birkenau and labor in the death squads, April 1944; transfer to Bergen-Belsen, May 1944 and then to Mauthausen camp, to labor collecting corpses until liberation by the US Army, April 1945. Return to Athens, where her aunt had been in hiding with non-Jews; reunion with a brother and sisters who returned from the camps; return of their property; aliya to Israel with her husband and young daughter, 1949; absorption difficulties and starting a family.
