Testimony of Ester (Goldstein) Klein, born in Kis-Palad, 1927, regarding her experiences in Budapest, the Satmar Ghetto, Auschwitz-Birkenau and Vrchlabi camps Traditional parents own a small store and leased agricultural land in a small village; good relations with neighbors; external high school studies due to numerus clausus; life in Budapest and work in relatives' store. Deportation with family to the Satmar Ghetto before Shavuot, 1944; ghetto life; deportation to camp C-24 in Auschwitz-Birkenau; talk about cooking and food; stay in camp for three months under protection of a young girl older than the witness; transfer to Vrchlabi camp (which held 350 people) to work at building submarines, autumn 1944; night-time labor; four kilometers walk to place of work; liberation by "bad" Russians who abused the women, and by the US Army, May 1945. Travel by train and on foot to Budapest; help from the Joint; robbery of the property they had leased in the village; return to Budapest to her uncle's home; joining Hashomer Hatzair; in training camp with her future husband, Shalom; various jobs over two years; aliya to Israel, 1949; absorption in Kibbutz Sha'ar Hagolan; founding Kibbutz Givat Oz.
