Testimony of Daniel Milin, born in Zagreb, 1933, regarding his experiences as a small child in Karlovac under German and Italian occupation, in Valli Del Pasubic, Milan and Venice Well-to-do assimilated family in Karlovac; displays of antisemitism and sanctions against Jews by the Ustasha Croatian fascist organization. Entry of the Germans; Italian occupation; his family is forced to quarter an Italian Army officer in their home; "Aktions" and deportation of Jews to concentration camps, early 1942; rescue of family by the Italian Army officer; family moves to Nove Mesto; waiting to receive official permission from the Italian government; move of the entire group to Valli Del Pasubic in the Vicenza area; learning in Italian school in village; Italian surrender to Allies; fear of the fascists; receiving forged documents and escape to Venice; escape to Milan; making contact with the JDC via the Swiss Embassy; escape to Switzerland; living in hotels under the auspices of the JDC. Return to Karlovac when the war ended; learning in a Croatian school; aliya to Eretz Israel, 1948.
