Testimony of David Steiner, born in Bratislava, 1926, regarding his experiences in Bratislava and various hiding places in Bratislava Life before the war; family owns a book store. Antisemitic laws including Aryanization of the family store, March 1939; establishment of Judenrat; deportation of families starting 1942; saved from deportation because of status as crucial to the economy; forced labor in construction; in hiding following warning about deportation; "Aktion" on Tisha B'Av, 1942; witness is investigated in order to discover parents' hiding place; break in deportations from Slovakia; financial help from non-Jewish acquaintances; failure of uprising against Germans at Banska Bystrica; renewal of deportations; Yom Kippur prayers lead by Rabbi Weissmandel, 1944; hiding with two families in a cellar and a bunker; life in the bunker; leaving bunker for various hiding places; receiving wine and matzot from Rabbi Weissmandel on Pesach eve, 1945; liberation by the Red Army. The Jewish community reorganizes itself; activity in Bnei Akiva youth movement; aliya to Israel, 1949.
