Testimony of Yehoshua Zvi Herman Lehrer Lamdan, born in Frankfurt, 1928, regarding his experiences in Frankfurt, orphanages in France, his escape to Spain and aliya to Eretz Israel in 1944 Childhood; his family was originally from Poland; abuse in the streets; atmosphere of fear in the community; Kristallnacht, 9 November 1938; arrest of the adults in his family; move to Strasbourg with three friends, 05 December 1938; life in an orphanage in Haguenau. Air-raids and German occupation, 09 January 1940; escape to Perigeux; move to an orphanage in Tresillac with the help of the UGIF; receives postcards from his father in Antwerp; remains in an orphanage in Bergerac from April until August 1941; enactment of law against foreigners; evacuation to Chateau de Montintin; kidnapping of youths by the French militia, 26 August 1942; ecape to Periguex; wanderings throughout France and works as a shepherd; work in a factory and bakery in Toulouse; jailed, May 1944; release and escape to Spain; stays in Barcelona; aliya to Eretz Israel, 04 November 1944; detention in Atlit camp.
